The Boycott of Nazi Israel begins..Israeli show cancelled following protest in Edinburgh

Israeli show cancelled following protest in Edinburgh

ProtestUp to 100 members of the Scottish Palestinian solidarity campaign protested outside the show in Edinburgh
An Israeli show at the Edinburgh Fringe has been cancelled after only one performance following a protest by a pro- Palestinian group.
The City, a hip-hop opera by a theatre company from Jerusalem which receives funding from the Israeli government, was already the focus of a campaign.
Two weeks ago, 50 Scottish artists and writers signed a letter calling for the cancellation of The City.
The Underbelly venue said the protest disrupted a number of shows.
The venue said it had no option but to cancel the rest of its run in its current location.
It said it was working to find a new venue for the show which was due to run in Edinburgh until 25 August.
Reid Hall
The hip-hop opera is presented by a company that receives money from the Israeli government which campaigners said made it legitimate to boycott, particularly due to the current situation in Gaza.
The show, by Jerusalem-based company Incubator Theatre, opened on Wednesday with up to 100 members of the Scottish Palestinian solidarity campaign protesting outside.

An Underbelly spokesman said: "After discussions between Underbelly, Incubator Theatre, the University of Edinburgh and Police Scotland it was agreed that future performances of The City at the Reid Hall would be cancelled.
"Today's performance of The City went ahead as planned, but the logistics of policing and stewarding the protest around The Reid Hall - and the effect of the disturbance on Underbelly and other venues' other shows - make it untenable for the show to continue in the Cowbarn, Reid Hall.
"Underbelly and Incubator Theatre will work to identify other suitable venues for the show to perform at in Edinburgh.
"All tickets for forthcoming performances of The City in the Cowbarn, Reid Hall will be refunded.
"When an alternative venue is found, customers will be able to book tickets for that show separately."

ISRAELI POLICE: "THE 3 DEAD ISRAELIS WERE NOT KIDNAPPED BY HAMAS"

BREAKING NEWS!!!

After three weeks of Israel’s bloody war on Gaza mainly under the pretext of alleged abduction of three Israeli teenagers by Hamas, the Israeli police have acknowledged that the kidnappers were not acting under the orders of the resistance movement.

In a Friday interview with the state-run BBC, Israeli Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld ruled out any links between the men responsible for the murdering of the three teenagers and Hamas, saying they are part of a “lone cell.”

Israeli forces killed several Palestinians and arrested hundreds of others, including Hamas members and lawmakers, as part of the search for the three settlers, whom Israel claimed went missing in the West Bank on June 12.

Hamas had denied involvement in the alleged disappearance of the teens.

On June 30, Israel confirmed that the three Israeli settlers were dead and their bodies were buried in a field near the village of Halhul north of the city of al-Khalil (Hebron) in the West Bank.

A day after the funeral of the three teenagers, Israeli settlers abducted and burned alive 17-year-old Palestinian Mohamed Abu Khdeir in the West Bank in retaliation for the incident.

One of the main reasons that Israel launched its new war on Gaza was the regime’s accusations against Hamas over the kidnapping issue.

The Palestinian death toll has reached 900 from more than two weeks of Israeli strikes. Around 5,700 Palestinians have also been injured in the onslaught.

Israeli warplanes have been carrying out incessant airstrikes against the blockaded Gaza Strip since July 8. On July 17, thousands of Israeli soldiers launched a ground incursion into the densely-populated strip.

The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, has been launching retaliatory attacks against Israel.

While Israel confirms 37 Israelis have been killed in the war, Hamas sources put the number at about 90.

Your Corporate U.S. government in action: US appeals court says Colombians cannot sue Chiquita

Chiquita trucks were seen in Gulfport, Mississippi, on 28 August 2008Chiquita has admitted to paying paramilitary groups in Colombia in the past

A US appeals court has dismissed a lawsuit against banana grower Chiquita brought by at least 4,000 Colombians who accused the company of supporting paramilitary forces who killed or tortured their relatives.
The Florida-based court found US courts have no jurisdiction over the case.
Chiquita, which is based in the US, has admitted paying paramilitaries but said it was a victim of extortion.
It said the ruling reinforces that it was not responsible for the violence.
'Outside the US'
In a court case dating back to 2007, the Colombian plaintiffs allege that a pair of US laws, the Torture Victim Protection Act and the Alien Tort Statute, enable it to sue the American company in US courts for damages.
But, in the 2-1 decision on Thursday, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals found a 2013 US Supreme Court ruling limited foreign nationals' ability to seek damages against corporations in US courts.
"The Alien Tort Statute does not apply extraterritorially," wrote Judge David Sentelle for the majority. "The torture, if the allegations are taken as true, occurred outside the territorial jurisdiction of the US."
The court also found the Torture Victim Protection Act applied only to actual people, not to corporations.
In a dissenting opinion, Judge Beverly Martin wrote that the plaintiffs alleged that Chiquita's executives "participated in a campaign of torture and murder in Colombia... from their corporate offices in the territory of the US".
Thus, she wrote, the court did have jurisdiction to consider their claims.
Chiquita has admitted paying a Colombian paramilitary group - the United Self-Defence Forces or AUC - $1.7m between 1997-2004, the year it sold its banana holdings in Colombia.
It has maintained it was forced to make the payments in order to protect its employees, not because it supported terrorism.
'Another tragedy'
The US considers the AUC a terrorist organisation, and in 2007 it fined the company $25m (£14.7m).
Fighters of the Colombian United Self-Defence appeared in Colombia on 25 November 2004The United Self-Defence Forces once counted thousands of members
Soon after, lawsuits on behalf of the Colombians were filed in a number of federal courts.
On Thursday, Chiquita praised the US appeals court decision, writing in a statement it "reinforces what Chiquita has maintained from the beginning... that Chiquita is not responsible for the tragic violence that has plagued Colombia".
But Paul Wolf, a lawyer for a large number of the plaintiffs, told US media the ruling was "another tragedy for the victims of the war, who have already been through so much".
Lawyers for the plaintiffs may appeal to the US Supreme Court to review the case. Otherwise, their only avenue for redress is to seek damages in Colombian courts.

Gaza UN school shelter hit, 'killing 15'

These people are "beyond consolation", as Yolande Knell reports from Gaza
At least 15 people were killed and more than 200 injured when a UN-run school used as a shelter in Gaza came under fire, Gazan health officials say.
Palestinian families were in the school in Beit Hanoun, fleeing Israel's offensive against Hamas militants.
In the past 16 days of fighting, more than 750 Palestinians and 33 Israelis have been killed, officials say.
Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal told the BBC he wants a ceasefire and end to Israel's blockade as soon as possible.
"We don't want to be controlled by a border crossing that makes Gaza the biggest prison in the world," Mr Meshaal, who lives in exile in Qatar, told BBC Hardtalk.
"People cannot go for medical treatment or to work. Why are the people of Gaza being punished by a slow death in the world biggest prison. This is a crime."
Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal: "There should be a genuine guarantee to lift the siege in Gaza"
Israel launched its military offensive on 8 July with the declared objective of stopping Hamas firing rockets from Gaza.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday he regretted each Palestinian civilian death, but said they were "the responsibility of Hamas".
UN chief Ban Ki-moon said he was "appalled" by the attack on the school in northern Gaza and said it underscored "the imperative for the killing to stop - and to stop now".
According to the UN, more than 118,000 people are now sheltering in UN schools and people are running out of food.
Pools of blood
It is the fourth time in as many days that a UN facility has been hit.
Correspondents say pools of blood lay on the ground in the courtyard of the school in Beit Hanoun, and there was a large scorch mark where it appeared a shell had hit.
Map of Gaza
UN officials said that during the course of the day they had been trying to negotiate a window of time with the Israeli army for civilians to leave the area because of the heavy fighting.
Chris Gunness, a spokesman for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (Unrwa), also said the Israeli army had been formally given the co-ordinates of the shelter in Beit Hanoun.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it was in the midst of combat "with Hamas terrorists in the area of Beit Hanoun, who are using civilian infrastructure and international symbols as human shields".
"In the course of the afternoon, several rockets launched by Hamas from within the Gaza Strip landed in the Beit Hanoun area. The IDF is reviewing the incident," it said.

Israelis take cover in Ashkelon, 23 July 2014Israelis have had to seek shelter from frequent rocket fire from Gaza
The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) says a 1.9 mile (3km) wide strip, encompassing 44% of Gaza, has been designated as a no-go zone by the Israeli military.
Israel imposed restrictions on the Gaza Strip in 2006, after Hamas abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
The measures were tightened by Israel and Egypt in 2007, after Hamas ousted rival Fatah and forcibly took control in Gaza after winning elections the year before.
Hamas and Fatah announced a reconciliation deal in April, but the move was condemned by Israel which regards Hamas as a terrorist group.
Benjamin Netanyahu said UN criticism of Israeli action was a "travesty of justice, fairness and common sense"
Israel's Science Minister Yaakov Peri told Israeli web portal Walla that he did not see a ceasefire being agreed in the coming days, as the IDF needed more time to dismantle Hamas' underground tunnel network.
But in his BBC interview, Mr Meshaal was critical of the way Israel targeted Palestinian homes in aerial bombardments, only giving them a three-minute signal to leave.
"A Palestinian has built this home with his money. Are Israelis expecting him to leave just like that?"
He said Israel was unable to reach the underground rocket launchers, belonging "to the resistance".
"This is why it pretends that they are in civilian areas so Israel is hitting hospitals mosques, towers and buildings," the militant leader said.
Palestinian medical sources said the death toll in Gaza had risen to more than 750 on Thursday.
Israel says 31 soldiers, two Israeli civilians and a Thai worker Israeli city of Ashkelon have been killed since 8 July.
Not to be outdone by Muhammadan killers, Israeli Zionist killers target children again and again. No compassion for Gentiles being systematically taught to Israeli children to mirror the same by Hamas.

Genocide in Gaza

My 82 year old mother can't take it anymore. She comes upstairs to tell me
to ask me what she can do. She asked me to watch TV with her because she is
to depressed to see it alone. We flip through the few channels that are not
bought and paid for by racists. We watch as victims form the latest Israeli
massacre in Gaza piled into one hospital. Hundreds of people are around the
hospital grounds in shock at the scene. I ask her not to watch TV too much
and I reassure her that we are doing things. We donated, we had
demonstrations here in Bethlehem, we speak out, we encourage boycotts,
divestment, and sanctions. She said "but Israel continues its massacres and
they have been doing it for decades". (my mother's friend in school in
Jerusalem was murdered in Deir Yassin). I do not know what to tell her so I
walk up her to ask you. What will we collectively do? This latest is a
massacre of civilians in a United Nations school. Over 60,000 Palestinians
were driven from their homes by Israeli shelling and the UN opened its
schools to shelter them. Those killed left their homes with nothing to seek
safety. In this instance 16 civilians (so far) were murdered and over 200
were injured (many severely). This despite the fact the the UN gave all
school shelter coordinates to the Israeli army days ago. Dozens of injured
children laid on floors soaked with blood as their mothers and siblings
wailed uncontrollably. After Israel shelled three hospitals and with over
6000 injured, there are no hospital space let alone beds. Doctors are
collapsing as they have worked 24 hours a day and some for days without
sleep and with limited available supplies that are now running out as
Egyptian government still collaborates with Israel in this genocide. And
yes I call it genocide because it fits under the International Convention
dealing with genocide. Genocide is never measured by its success rate but
by intention. Israel intended since 1948 and before) to destroy a whole
group of people politically, culturally and physically. Every day 50, 60,
or 70 Palestinian civilians are massacred while the leaders of countries
like Canada support this! Their citizens must stand-up and say enough is
enough. Netanyahu and all his henchmen should be brought to the Hague
immediately fr crimes against humanity. If you think I am too harsh in my
judgement please read more below and watch tapes and interact via social
media (e.g. you can find us on face book).

Isis 'orders female genital mutilation' for women in Mosul

A member loyal to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis) waves an Isis flag in Raqqa, Iraq, 29 June 2014Isis-led insurgents have seized large areas of north-western Iraq
The UN says militant Islamist group Isis has ordered all women and girls in Mosul, northern Iraq, to undergo female genital mutilation (FGM).
UN official Jacqueline Badcock said the fatwa, or religious edict, applied to females between the ages of 11 and 46.
She said the unprecedented decree issued by the Islamists in control of the city was of grave concern.
Iraq is facing a radical Isis-led Sunni insurgency, with cities in the north-west under militant control.
The ritual cutting of girls' genitals is practised by some African, Middle Eastern and Asian communities in the belief it prepares them for adulthood or marriage.
FGM poses many health risks to women, including severe bleeding, problems urinating, infections, infertility and increased risk of newborn deaths in childbirth.
'Four million'
The UN General Assembly approved a resolution in December 2012 calling for all member states to ban the practice.
The Isis edict could affect nearly four million women and girls in and around the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, the UN warns.
Ms Badcock, the UN's resident and humanitarian coordinator in Iraq, said the practice "is something very new for Iraq... and does need to be addressed".
She was talking to reporters via video link from the Kurdish provincial capital of Irbil.
Desperate Iraqi women at the Khazair displacement camp on 30 June 2014 in Khazair, Iraq. Tens of thousands of men, women and children have fled the violence in Mosul since June
"This is not the will of Iraqi people, or the women of Iraq in these vulnerable areas covered by the terrorists," she added.
Isis militants seized Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, in June, and have since taken over areas of the north-west and closed in on cities near Baghdad.
The order came as Isis asserts its power in northern Iraq and expands in Syria, imposing radical Islamic practices, says BBC Arab affairs editor Lina Sinjab.
Isis forced Christians in Mosul out of the city earlier this week and daubed their houses with the Arabic letter N to mark them out as Christians, apparently confiscating their properties, our correspondent adds.

FGM and child marriage

have undergone FGM
  • 29 countries in Africa and the Middle East practise FGM
  • 33% less chance a girl will be cut today than 30 years ago
  • But rising birth rate means more girls in total are affected
  • 250m women worldwide were married before age of 15
Unicef
Ms Badcock said only 20 families from the ancient Christian minority now remain in Mosul, which Isis has taken as the capital of its Islamic state.
Thousands have fled into Kurdish-controlled territory in the north.
Some of the Christians who remained have converted to Islam, while others have opted to stay and pay the "jiyza", the tax imposed by Isis on non-Muslims, the UN official added.
Isis announced last month that it was creating an Islamic caliphate covering the land it holds in Iraq and Syria.

Female genital mutilation
  • Includes "the partial or total removal of the female external genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons"
  • Practised in 29 countries in Africa and some countries in Asia and the Middle East
  • An estimated three million girls and women worldwide are at risk each year
  • About 125 million victims estimated to be living with the consequences
  • It is commonly carried out on young girls, often between infancy and the age of 15
  • Often motivated by beliefs about what is considered proper sexual behaviour, to prepare a girl or woman for adulthood and marriage and to ensure "pure femininity"
Lest we forget Muhammad's Islam is the most barbaric of the Abrahamic religions, with Zionist Judaism right behind, and Evangelical Christians there to support the barbaric acts of Zionists. It will be a Great Day when people wake up to the fact that the Bible stories have been exposed by archeological research to be only Hebrew myths of origin and without historical documentation but much tribal exaggerations and fabrications of events and peoples who never existed. This is why I teach Celestial Torah Christianity as it can and will sail right past the inevitable End Times of all Abrahamic religions based on Bible belief and not direct Spirit revelation, i.e. Gnosis.

UN's Navi Pillay warns of Israel Gaza 'war crimes'

BBC News
23 July 2014 Last updated at 06:55 ET

The UN's top human rights official has condemned Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip, saying that war crimes may have been committed.
Navi Pillay told an emergency debate at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva that Israel's military offensive had not done enough to protect civilians.
She also condemned Hamas for "indiscriminate attacks" on Israel.
Israel launched its offensive on 8 July with the declared objective of stopping rocket fire from Gaza.
"There seems to be a strong possibility that international law has been violated, in a manner that could amount to war crimes," Ms Pillay said.
However Israel, which claims the UN Human Rights Council is biased, is unlikely to co-operate with any authorised UN investigation, the BBC's Imogen Foulkes in Geneva reports.
At least 649 Palestinians and 31 Israelis have been killed in the past 15 days of fighting, officials say.
Smoke billows from a beach shack following an Israeli military strike on Gaza City, 16 July 2014Ms Pillay said an attack on a Gaza beach that killed several children may have violated humanitarian law
Meanwhile US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Israel on Wednesday to try to help negotiate a truce.
He landed at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv, despite a 24-hour ban on US flights there imposed by American aviation authorities.
Several European airlines have also suspended flights to Israel after a rocket from Gaza landed near the airport.
'Hamas accountable'
Fighting continued overnight on Tuesday. An air strike in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip left at least five people dead. An Israeli soldier was also killed.
A Palestinian woman whom the BBC filmed being pulled from the rubble of a Gaza blast on Sunday also died from her injuries, her doctor said. Ten of her relatives were killed in the blast.
UN chief Ban Ki-moon and Mr Kerry are in the region to try to bring an end to the fighting.
They have both called for an immediate end to hostilities and for the underlying causes of the conflict to be addressed.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hamas should be held accountable for rejecting an Egyptian ceasefire proposal.
Are Israeli air strike warnings effective? The BBC examines footage from both sides
Referring to a 16 July Israeli air strike that killed children playing on a beach in Gaza, Ms Pillay said "the disregard for international humanitarian law and for the right to life was shockingly evident".
She also condemned rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel.
"The principles of distinction and precaution are clearly not being observed during such indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas by Hamas and other armed Palestinian groups," she told the UN Human Rights Council.
Despite her condemnation of Hamas attacks on Israel, Ms Pillay clearly views Israel's actions in Gaza as disproportionate, our correspondent says.
A 2009 UN human rights report said that Israel's military and Hamas had each committed potential war crimes during Israel's 2008-2009 offensive in Gaza.
The Goldstone report was rejected by Israel and the US as biased and flawed.
In 2011, the report's author, South African judge Richard Goldstone, said that new accounts indicated Israel had not deliberately targeted civilians.

Jews Say No to Israeli Genocide

We call on Jews all over the world to follow the call from Haider Eid, political activist and commentator, to “besiege Israeli consulates,” and to protest Zionist events attempting to justify Israel’s massacre of Palestinians. Below are reports of actions Jews against genocide are taking or participating in.
Please join us – organize pickets, protests, creative actions, sit-ins, demonstrations and direct action to protest – in the loudest possible way – the brutal massacre and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

Screen-Shot-2014-07-21-at-13-30-42IJAN-UK organized a Jewish bloc to participate in a demonstration on Saturday, July 19th in which tens of thousands of people took the streets. As reported in the on-line journal, Vice

To both Jews and non-Jews the idea of an anti-Zionist Jew can sound like a contradiction in terms—an abuse of Rabbi Hillel’s most famous ethical aphorism, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me." But for Sam Weinstein, and for around 30 others, me included, tucked together in a small Jewish bloc at Saturday’s Gaza demo in London, standing against Israel is precisely what our background demands. “I come from a Jewish tradition that has always fought for the underdog,” Sam told me as he unfurled a banner of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network in the sticky heat. “One that has fought for social justice because historicall we were the ones getting killed by the state.”

In Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, IJAN members have helped organize and participate in demonstrations against Israel’s military assault on Gaza and the Palestinian people, and in response to the call from civil society in Palestine. Demands include calling for an end to Canada’s unequivocal support for Israel, toronto 2“right or wrong” and recognition of the connection between Israeli policies towards Palestinians and Canada’s genocide against Indigenous peoples here on Turtle Island. On Friday 11 July in Toronto, over 3000 people protested and marched from the Israeli consulate to the main intersection of Yonge and Bloor Streets. The following week, daily vigils were held in front of the Israeli consulate in Toronto @ the noon hour by members of Independent Jewish Voices (IJV), IJAN Canada, Pax Christi, and others, culminating in another demonstration on Saturday 19 July. Also on 19 July IJAN members took part in a demonstration in Hamilton, where over 1000 people rallied against Israeli war crimes. Further actions are in the works, including a joint statement with IJV on recent attacks against Muslims and a Muslim community centre.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, Stand With Us, a pro-Israel right wing group in America, organized a Stand with Israel protest outside of the Israeli consulate in downtown Chicago, IL. The Coalition for Justice in Palestine, a coalition of Palestinian, Muslim and Arab community, religious and student organizations in Chicago, convened a Stand With Gaza counterprotest. On a busy Tuesdayafternoon in the heart of downtown Chicago, the two demonstrations faced off, with the pro-Palestinian rally clearly showing larger numbers and winning the support of pedestrians and motorists across the crowded streets.

In the middle of the demonstration, Jews for Justice In Palestine (JJP), a collective of Chicago Jews in solidarity with Palestinians in their struggle against Israeli occupation, dumped a pile of bloodied baby dolls in full view of the pro-Israel rally and the Israeli consulate. The dolls symbolize the innocent children that have died as a result of Israel's terrible bombardment and invasion of Gaza over the last two weeks.

JJP stands with the Palestinian people in mourning the over 550 Palestinians in Gaza who have been killed, the over 3000 wounded, and the over 80,000 who have fled their homes since Israel's assault began. JJP also stands with the Palestinian community worldwide as they take to the streets and resist the occupation. As Jews, we are resolute that this bloodshed may not continue in our name, and we urge fellow Jews all over the world to continue to stand with the Palestinian people, protest outside of Israeli embassies and consulates, and amplify the movement for BDS to end the occupation and win justice for Palestine.

Occupation and Apartheid Are Not Jewish Values!
Solidarity and Liberation Are!

As bombs rain down on Gaza, and Israel intensifies its latest genocidal attacks with a ground invasion, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund, and the Board of Rabbis of Northern California hosted “Stop the Sirens in Israel: An Emergency Solidarity Gathering” at Temple Emanu-El. “Stop the Sirens” is a national effort sponsored by the Reform Movement and led by the Jewish Federations of North America. In San Francisco, the Israeli Consul General, Andy David, spoke—or tried to speak.

2014-07-21-09.39.14-224x300Members of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network and other Jews of conscience staged seven disruptions inside the event, as members of Queers Undermining Israeli Terror, Jewish Voice for Peace, and IJAN demonstrated outside. Our message was clear: any institution that seeks to offer political cover for Israel’s brutality will face opposition and isolation.

Disruptors, who included children and grandchildren of survivors of the Nazi genocide, interrupted the proceedings by shouting “stop Israel’s genocide of Palestinians,” and “never again for anyone.”

Our action was staged in tandem with a funeral march organized by the Arab Resource and Organizing Center, attended by thousands in downtown San Francisco. The Jewish action drew away reactionary Zionist demonstrators and disrupted the media frame of “Jews versus Arabs” by asserting a Jewish voice in strong opposition to the attacks and siege on Gaza and the occupation of Palestine. The action was covered by mainstream media television sources KTVU and CBS.

Predictably, Zionist audience members and counter-demonstrators reacted with violence—pushing, hitting, and verbally attacking activists.

Critics accused us of desecrating a sacred space. But they have it backwards: by inviting an apologist for Israeli war crimes, and in offering prayers to the Israeli Defense Forces, the Zionist hosts desecrated the sacred space. We reject the conflation of Zionism and Judaism which makes a mockery of Jewish values, and manipulates and abuses Jewish histories of persecution by claiming that Israel acts to protect Jews. We call on Jews everywhere stand firmly, and to take action to demand the end of Israel’s bombing, siege, occupation, and colonization.

Stand against Israel’s slaughter in Gaza, stand in support of Palestinian self-determination and resistance, stand on the side of life.
